Tragic! Bhopal SUV Driver Arrested After Killing Two People

A Bhopal SUV driver was arrested after a speeding red Thar car rammed into three people near Arvaliya village, killing two and injuring another late on Monday night. Police have identified the accused as Nishant Parihar (23), a resident of the same village, and have seized the vehicle involved in the crash.

Late-Night Collision Claims Two Lives

According to the Itkhedi police, the accident took place when Mukhtar Khan and Pappu alias Sher Singh Thakur were standing on the roadside chatting, while Gani Khan was riding his motorcycle towards Lambakheda.

At around 11:30 p.m., a speeding red Mahindra Thar suddenly veered off the road, hitting Gani Khan’s bike with tremendous force. The impact dragged him several meters before the SUV rammed into Mukhtar Khan and Sher Singh Thakur, who were standing nearby.

“The collision was so powerful that two men died on the spot, while another was seriously injured,” said Ashish Sapre, the officer in charge of the Itkhedi police station.

Both Mukhtar Khan and Gani Khan succumbed to their injuries instantly, while Pappu (Sher Singh Thakur) was rushed to a local hospital and remains under treatment.

Accused Fled, Later Arrested

Following the crash, the driver abandoned the SUV at the scene and fled. Local residents immediately informed the police, who launched an intensive search to trace the suspect.

A police team was quickly constituted under the direction of station incharge Ashish Sapre. Acting on a tip-off, officers tracked down and arrested Nishant Parihar on Wednesday morning.

“The accused Nishant, a resident of Arvaliya, has been taken into custody. His SUV has been seized, and further investigation is underway,” Sapre confirmed.

Vehicle Seized, Forensic Checks Ordered

The Itkhedi police have impounded the red Thar involved in the incident and are conducting mechanical and forensic inspections to verify whether the vehicle was overspeeding or had any prior mechanical issues.

Authorities are also investigating whether drunken driving played a role in the fatal crash. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being reviewed to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Preliminary findings indicate the car was traveling at a high speed on the narrow rural stretch, where visibility is poor at night.

Community in Shock

The fatal collision has left the Arvaliya village community in deep shock. Both victims — Mukhtar Khan and Gani Khan — were known locals. Residents gathered at the site on Tuesday morning demanding stricter enforcement against reckless driving in rural zones.

“Speeding vehicles have become a constant threat here. We’ve lost two lives unnecessarily,” said one local villager.

The incident also renewed calls for speed breakers and reflective road signage along the Lambakheda–Arvaliya route, which has witnessed multiple accidents over the past year.

Police Investigation Continues

Police have registered a case against Nishant Parihar under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to causing death by negligence and rash driving.

Officers said additional charges may be filed if evidence confirms that the accused was driving under the influence.

The Itkhedi police have sent a report to senior officials, and a detailed accident reconstruction is underway.

“We are awaiting the forensic report and medical examination. Once confirmed, appropriate legal action will follow,” said Sapre.
