A 56-year-old dermatologist has been arrested in Bengaluru after a 21-year-old woman accused him of sexual harassment during a consultation at his private clinic in central Bengaluru, police said on Monday.
According to officials, the accused has been remanded to judicial custody, and a detailed investigation is underway.

👩⚖️ Complaint Filed After Alleged Incident at Private Clinic
The woman, a college student, told police that she had gone alone to the clinic for a follow-up appointment related to a skin condition. She usually visits with her father, who could not accompany her that day.
In her police complaint, the woman alleged that the doctor acted inappropriately during the examination, making unwelcome physical contact and inappropriate remarks, despite her repeated objections.
After returning home, she informed her family, who then approached the police. Local residents also gathered outside the clinic to demand strict action.
“A case has been registered based on the woman’s complaint, and the accused has been taken into custody,” a police official said.
🚨 Case Registered Under Sexual Harassment Sections
The Ashok Nagar Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 75: Sexual harassment
- Section 79: Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman
The accused was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
“The investigation is in progress. Medical evidence and witness statements are being recorded,” the police added.
⚖️ Public Protest and Legal Action
Soon after the complaint, a crowd gathered outside the doctor’s clinic, demanding immediate suspension of his license and a transparent inquiry. Police intervened to disperse the protesters and maintain order.
The doctor has reportedly denied the allegations, claiming that his actions were “misinterpreted” during the consultation. However, police said all statements will be verified through due process.
📢 Authorities Urge Victims to Report Misconduct
Bengaluru Police have reiterated their appeal to residents to report any instances of harassment or misconduct by medical professionals without hesitation.
“All such cases are treated with seriousness, and strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty,” said a senior officer from the city’s Central Division.
