A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two youths on Friday after their bike skidded off the Garuda Varadhi elevated corridor near Lakshmipuram junction in Tirupati. The victims, identified as Kanishk (22) from Kandulavaripalle and Vasthav Kamineni (22) from Kotala, both residents of Chandragiri mandal, died on the spot.

⚠️ Accident at Known ‘Black Spot’
The fatal incident occurred when the duo, reportedly riding at high speed, failed to negotiate a sharp curve on the flyover. The bike hit the safety railing, throwing both riders off the elevated corridor from a height of nearly 50 feet near the Sankarambadi Sundarachari statue.
Police officials confirmed that the spot has a history of accidents and is regarded as one of the most dangerous curves on the Garuda Varadhi. Despite the installation of barricades and warning boards ahead of the bend, several motorists continue to overspeed and lose control while approaching the curve.
“Preliminary inquiry suggests overspeeding as the main reason. Both victims were wearing casual clothing and were not using helmets,” said a police officer from Tirupati East Police Station.
🛣️ About the Garuda Varadhi Corridor
The Garuda Varadhi flyover, a six-kilometre-long elevated corridor, serves as a crucial link between the Tiruchanur market yard and Kapila Theertham junction. It was built to ease traffic congestion for both Tirumala-bound pilgrims and local commuters.
While the structure has greatly improved connectivity, locals say the Lakshmipuram junction curve has become notorious for mishaps since the corridor’s inauguration. At least half a dozen accidents have been reported at the same spot in the past two years.
🚓 Police Respond & Traffic Restored
Following the accident, the Tirupati East Police rushed to the scene, cleared the damaged debris, and restored traffic flow within an hour. The bodies were sent to SVR Ruia Government General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Authorities are expected to review road design and signage on the Garuda Varadhi to prevent future accidents. Locals have demanded speed limit enforcement and stronger railings at accident-prone spots.
“Despite prior warnings, high-speed driving remains a major issue on the flyover. Authorities must install reflective markers and increase night patrolling,” said a resident near Lakshmipuram junction.
