The sacred festival of Karva Chauth 2025 has not only illuminated homes and hearts across India but also powered a massive economic surge, generating an estimated ₹28,000 crore in business nationwide, according to data released by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

Delhi alone accounted for ₹8,000 crore of the total, marking a record-breaking year for festive trade. The figures indicate a robust recovery in consumer spending, fueled by strong domestic demand, GST relief, and a growing preference for Swadeshi (local) products.

🌕 Markets Abuzz With Festive Energy

From Chandni Chowk and Sarojini Nagar in Delhi to bustling bazaars in Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Indore, the festive mood gripped markets from early morning.

Women dressed in traditional sarees and lehengas thronged stores for pooja thalis, earthen pots, bangles, cosmetics, sweets, and jewellery, while beauty parlours and mehndi artists worked round the clock to cater to the rush.

The nirjala fast (observed without food or water) and the moon-sighting ritual — where women break their fast after their husbands offer water — were celebrated across households with devotion and grandeur.

“Based on the unprecedented consumer rush and data from across states, we estimate Karva Chauth-related business to cross ₹28,000 crore this year, up from ₹22,000 crore in 2024 and ₹15,000 crore in 2023,”
said Praveen Khandelwal, MP from Chandni Chowk and Secretary General, CAIT.

💰 Delhi Leads Festive Trade, Small Businesses Thrive

According to CAIT, Delhi’s contribution of ₹8,000 crore was led by traditional marketplaces like Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, and Rajouri Garden, where traders reported brisk sales of ethnic wear, jewellery, and home décor.

Smaller neighbourhood markets in Pitampura, Rohini, Preet Vihar, and Shalimar Bagh also reported record footfall.

“This year, consumer sentiment is at an all-time high. Reduced GST rates have given people more spending power, while the Prime Minister’s appeal to ‘buy Swadeshi’ has boosted sales for Indian-made products,”
Khandelwal added.

CAIT noted that beauty parlours, mehndi artists, and small-scale service providers have also benefited immensely, generating thousands of temporary jobs in the days leading up to the festival.
