Festive Demand Surge

Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer – Marketing & Sales at MSIL, said customer activity has spiked since the GST Council’s rate cut announcement. Many buyers had delayed purchases in August, but sales have now picked up sharply this festive season.

  • Daily bookings jumped from 10,000 to nearly 18,000.
  • Small cars are seeing record demand, with sales growth of 100% in smaller towns and over 35–40% growth in metro cities.
  • Beyond the top 100 cities, demand is even stronger, signaling wider market penetration.

GST Rate Cuts: Key Highlights

  • Small cars (<4m length, up to 1200cc petrol / 1500cc diesel): GST reduced to 18% from 29–31% earlier.
  • Larger cars (>4m length): Special GST rate cut to 40% from 43–50%.
👉 This makes entry-level and compact cars much more affordable, driving higher sales in the segment.

Dealer & Finance Push

Banerjee highlighted how:

  • Dealers are working overtime to meet delivery timelines.
  • Finance partners are sanctioning loans faster to keep up with the surge in demand.
  • Maruti is preparing to launch an innovative finance product offering entry-level cars at EMIs starting ₹1,999 per month.

Growing Car Ownership

India currently has only 34 cars per 1,000 people, much lower than global averages. With GST cuts and easy finance schemes, Maruti Suzuki aims to convert two-wheeler owners into car buyers, boosting car penetration nationwide.

Conclusion

The GST 2.0 reforms have not only lowered car prices but also sparked unprecedented demand, especially in the small-car segment. Combined with festive offers and flexible finance, India’s largest carmaker believes this festive season could mark a turning point for the auto industry’s growth story.
