Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced that the state government will install one CCTV camera every 55 kilometres as part of an extensive surveillance and public safety initiative.
Speaking at the Police Martyrs’ Day commemoration in Mangalagiri, Naidu said that CCTV cameras act as the “third eye” of law enforcement, helping police prevent crime, track suspects, and ensure accountability.
“A CCTV camera every 55 kilometres will serve as the police department’s third eye — whoever commits any wrongdoing, wherever they are, can be caught with clear evidence,”
the Chief Minister said.

🎯 Goal: Statewide Surveillance Network
Naidu said the decision was taken as part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen law and order and ensure public safety through technology integration.
He noted that the Andhra Pradesh Police have already set an example for smart policing through specialized units like the Eagle Teams and Shakti Teams, which have enhanced women’s safety and traffic vigilance across districts.
“The AP Police has become an ideal force by effectively using technology for real-time tracking and emergency response,”
Naidu said.
🧠 ‘Technology Is the Future of Policing’
The Chief Minister reiterated his focus on transforming the state’s police force into a data-driven and tech-enabled department capable of handling modern challenges such as cybercrime, smuggling, and organized crime.
He said the deployment of CCTVs will be supported by AI-based analytics systems, drone surveillance, and centralized monitoring units, ensuring quick response and evidence-based investigations.
“Technology builds trust — it ensures transparency in policing and gives citizens confidence that their safety is being actively protected,” Naidu said.
🛡️ Context: Strengthening Law & Order
Naidu has repeatedly emphasized that law and order stability is essential for economic growth and investor confidence in Andhra Pradesh.
During the same event, he paid tribute to 192 police officers who lost their lives in service this year and announced welfare measures for the police, including DA hikes and surrender leave encashments.
“If peace prevails, investments will come. Safety is the foundation of prosperity,” he said, citing the recent $10 billion Google AI Data Center project in Visakhapatnam as an example of how confidence in law enforcement attracts global investors.
