The family of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances near an agricultural field in Ladhot village of Rohtak on Tuesday, has refused to hand over his body to the administration, demanding a fair investigation into the case.
Senior district officials including Rohtak ASP Pratik Agrawal and SDM Ashish Kumar met the bereaved family on Tuesday evening in an attempt to convince them to cooperate, but the talks remained inconclusive.

Body Found in Field, Forensic Team Called
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohtak Surendra Singh Bhoria, ASI Sandeep was a member of the Cyber Cell and was known as a “hardworking and honest officer.”
“This was a hardworking ASI of our department. His body has been found under suspicious circumstances. A forensic team has been called to the spot, and investigation is being carried out,”
SP Bhoria told reporters.
The cause of death is yet to be determined. Officials said that forensic experts and crime scene investigators collected evidence and that the post-mortem will be conducted only after the family gives consent.
Suspicious Timing Amid IPS Officer Death Case
The death of ASI Sandeep comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged suicide of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, who was found dead at his Chandigarh residence on October 7.
The IPS officer’s death has triggered a political and administrative storm in Haryana, with allegations of caste-based harassment and institutional pressure within the police force.
Rahul Gandhi Meets IPS Officer’s Family
Earlier on Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, met the family of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar in Chandigarh to express condolences.
Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by senior Haryana Congress leaders including Deepender Singh Hooda, Kumari Selja, Rao Dan Singh, and Gaurav Moolana.
“Puran Kumar served with integrity and courage. His death is not only a personal loss to his family but a reflection of deeper issues within the system that must be addressed,”
Rahul Gandhi told reporters after the meeting.
Chandigarh Police Seeks Late IPS Officer’s Laptop
Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Police has issued a notice to IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, wife of late IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, asking her to submit her husband’s laptop, which investigators believe holds crucial digital evidence.
Police sources said the laptop likely contains the original draft of the alleged suicide note, as well as key email records. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has identified the device as central to confirming the authenticity of the note.
“The laptop will be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for digital examination to verify authorship and timestamp data,”
a police source said.
The SIT aims to determine whether the note was indeed created by Puran Kumar, the time it was sent, and who accessed it.
However, Amneet P. Kumar has not yet handed over the laptop, maintaining that the investigation must first ensure proper procedural safeguards.
Growing Tensions Within Haryana Police
The two deaths — one of a senior IPS officer and the other of a field-level ASI — have intensified scrutiny over the state’s police administration and workplace culture.
Both incidents have prompted demands from political parties and community groups for independent investigations to rule out foul play.
A senior Haryana Police official said both cases would be handled with “full transparency and forensic rigor,” but admitted that “public confidence has to be restored through visible action.”
