Delhi Murder: Forensic Student Used Ghee, Alcohol, Fire to Kill Partner
Delhi murder: In one of the most shocking crime cases of the year, Delhi Police have revealed chilling details of how a 21-year-old forensic science student allegedly killed her live-in partner using a mix of ghee (clarified butter), alcohol, and fire, before trying to pass it off as an accident. The murder took place on October 6 in Gandhi Vihar, Timarpur, and was disguised as an accidental blaze.
According to officials, the accused — a forensic student from Moradabad and a self-confessed crime-show enthusiast — plotted the murder after her boyfriend allegedly filmed obscene videos of her and refused to delete them.
The Murder That Shocked Delhi
Around 2.50 a.m. on October 6, police received a distress call about a fire at a fourth-floor room in Gandhi Vihar. Firefighters rushed to the scene and, after dousing the flames, found a severely burnt body inside the flat.
Initially, police registered a case of accidental fire due to negligence. However, things took a darker turn when CCTV footage showed two people entering the building before the fire and a woman leaving shortly before the blaze erupted.
Investigators soon identified her as the victim’s 21-year-old live-in partner, who had been in a relationship with him since May 2024.
Relationship Turned Toxic
Police said the victim, a UPSC aspirant, and the accused had been living together for several months. Their relationship began deteriorating when the woman discovered that her partner had secretly recorded obscene videos of her.
“When she confronted him, he refused to delete them and allegedly humiliated her with false stories,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.
Feeling betrayed and trapped, the woman turned to her ex-boyfriend in Moradabad, who promised to help her get revenge. Together, they began plotting the murder.
The Deadly Plan
Using her background in forensic science and her fascination with crime shows, the accused allegedly devised a plan to make the murder look like an accidental fire.
According to investigators, she and her ex-boyfriend — who worked as an LPG gas distributor — visited the victim’s flat late on the night of October 5. The two strangled and beat the victim before dousing the body with ghee and alcohol to act as accelerants.
“She used her knowledge of forensics to mislead investigators,” the officer said. “The plan was to burn the body completely so that no evidence remained.”
Fire Set Using Gas Cylinder
Police said the ex-boyfriend’s knowledge of gas systems was key to the plan. “He opened the gas regulator and placed the cylinder near the victim’s head. Then he used a lighter to ignite the fire,” an officer said.
About an hour later, the cylinder exploded, engulfing the room in flames and reducing the body to ashes. The trio then fled the scene with the victim’s hard disk, laptop, and other belongings to erase all traces of their crime.
How Police Cracked the Case
Despite their calculated attempt, police quickly grew suspicious after analyzing CCTV footage from nearby buildings. The footage showed two men and a woman entering the flat before the fire.
Investigators used call detail records (CDRs) and technical surveillance to trace the accused. The forensic student was arrested from Moradabad on October 18, followed by the ex-boyfriend on October 21 and their associate on October 23.
During the investigation, police recovered a hard disk, trolley bag, two mobile phones, and the victim’s shirt — all crucial evidence linking them to the crime.
Forensic Evidence and Ongoing Probe
The postmortem revealed severe burn injuries and indications of strangulation before the fire. The forensic team is conducting a viscera examination to confirm the cause of death and determine if any chemicals were used.
Officers say the accused meticulously cleaned the flat and used household items to simulate an accidental fire. Her understanding of crime-scene procedures came from her studies in forensic science and hours of watching true-crime TV shows.
Police Statements
A Delhi Police spokesperson said, “This case stands out for the deliberate attempt to mislead investigators using forensic knowledge. The accused’s actions show premeditation and planning.”
Sources added that the woman had recently switched from forensic science to a computer science course after moving to Delhi. Police are now investigating whether the ex-boyfriend and their third accomplice played a larger role in the execution of the plan.
Chilling Aftermath
The case has drawn widespread attention for its disturbing blend of revenge, manipulation, and scientific precision. The murder not only exposed a toxic relationship but also highlighted the dangers of misusing forensic and scientific knowledge for personal vendettas.
Delhi Police continue to analyze digital evidence and phone data to piece together the complete timeline leading up to the killing.
