H2: Bhopal News: Police Intensify Anti-Drug Operations Across Madhya Pradesh
In a major anti-drug operation in Madhya Pradesh, police in Rewa and Sidhi districts have seized over 4,000 bottles of Onrex cough syrup allegedly used for drug abuse and arrested seven suspects. The seizures are part of the ongoing state-wide crackdown ordered by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav during the recent Collector–Commissioner conference.

Bhopal News: Anti-Drug Drive Intensifies Across Madhya Pradesh
The Madhya Pradesh police have ramped up their efforts against the illegal trade of pharmaceutical substances commonly misused as narcotics. Acting on the Chief Minister’s instructions, Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana launched a comprehensive campaign to curb the growing menace of drug addiction across the state.
As part of the drive, coordinated raids were conducted in Rewa and Sidhi districts, leading to multiple seizures and arrests linked to the sale and transport of Onrex cough syrup, which contains codeine — a controlled substance that can cause dependency when abused.
Rewa Police Seize Over 2,300 Bottles of Onrex Syrup
In Rewa district, two alleged smugglers — Rahul Singh and Utkarsh Dwivedi, both residents of Sidhi — were intercepted with a large consignment of cough syrup. Officials recovered 2,314 vials of Onrex, valued at Rs 4.51 lakh, from their possession.
Police also seized two cars worth Rs 12 lakh used for transporting the contraband. In further follow-up actions across the district, officials confiscated additional illegal substances worth Rs 12.68 lakh, taking the total estimated value of seizures in Rewa to nearly Rs 17 lakh.
Senior officers said that the operation was planned based on specific intelligence inputs, and the accused were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Sidhi Operations Yield 1,180 Bottles and Cash Haul
Similarly, Sidhi police executed three coordinated raids that resulted in the recovery of 1,180 bottles of Onrex cough syrup worth approximately Rs 2.37 lakh. In addition, officers seized a vehicle valued at Rs 10 lakh, a mobile phone worth Rs 15,000, an SUV, and cash amounting to Rs 12.52 lakh.
One accused has been taken into custody, and police teams are investigating the supply network. Officials believe the seized bottles were part of a larger inter-district trafficking ring that distributes codeine-based syrups to addicted users.
Total Seizure: 4,054 Bottles, Contraband Worth Rs 18.40 Lakh
Across Rewa and Sidhi, police seized a total of 4,054 bottles of narcotic cough syrup and contraband valued at around Rs 18.40 lakh. A combined total of seven accused were arrested during the operations.
Authorities said the crackdown is part of a long-term plan to disrupt illegal supply chains in Madhya Pradesh. The police have also increased patrols near border checkpoints and initiated surprise inspections at pharmacies and warehouses.
Police Warn Against Cough Syrup Misuse
Speaking on the health risks, DGP Kailash Makwana emphasized the dangers of codeine consumption. “Continuous use of codeine-based cough syrups leads to addiction, mental imbalance, sleep disorders, and adverse effects on the heart and respiratory systems,” he said.
The DGP added that awareness campaigns are being launched in educational institutions to prevent youth from falling into substance abuse. The Bhopal News anti-drug campaign will also involve community policing initiatives, helplines, and anonymous tip-off systems.
Statewide Crackdown Expected to Continue
Officials said that similar enforcement drives are being conducted in other districts, and more arrests are likely in the coming days. The police have vowed to continue targeting peddlers and suppliers of codeine-based syrups, narcotics, and synthetic drugs across Madhya Pradesh.
Senior officers stated that efforts will continue until illegal drug networks are completely dismantled.
